Haryana Municipal (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024

The Government of Haryana on September 19, 2024, issued the Haryana Municipal (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024, to further amend the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994.

The following has been stated namely: -

• Section 6 which states the Fixation of seats of Corporation, sub-section (5) shall be substituted with “(5) The wards reserved for members of the Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes ‘A’ and Backward Classes ‘B’ shall, as far as practicable, be situated in areas where the proportion of their population in the total population of the Corporation is the highest”.

• In Section 11 which states the Reservation of seats, after sub-section (4), a new sub-section (4A) shall be inserted which states about the reservation of seats for backward classes ‘B’ in every corporation.

• And, sub-section (5) of section 11, shall be substituted with “(5) The post of Mayor shall be filled by rotation and lot from amongst the members belonging to the General category, Scheduled Castes, Backward Class ‘A’, Backward Class ‘B’ and women in such manner as may be prescribed”.
